Wenger was speaking as a pundit for beIN Sports, alongside Marcel Desailly and Ruud Gullit, and, despite Spurs’ lack of silverware – their last trophy came in 2008 when they won the League Cup – he compared them to the famous Manchester United side which included the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville – the group of players known as the ‘Class of 92’.“It’s very difficult to win trophies in England,” Wenger said. “The last cup we won we had to play against [Manchester] City in the semi-final and Chelsea in the final – who were the champions. “What I want to say about Tottenham – I’m an Arsenal fan so it’s a bit of a sensitive subject for me – they have a generation of young players, who for me look like a little bit like the Man United generation, with Giggs, Scholes, Butt, the Nevilles, Beckham.“They (the Class of 92) made it to the complete top.”The Frenchman ended a near 22-year reign with Arsenal at the end of last season and in that time won three Premier League titles, including the famous ‘Invincibles’ season in which the Gunners remained unbeaten for the entire 2003/04 campaign.“You feel there is something there at Tottenham,” Wenger continued, “but they have not shown the maturity in the decisive moments to get to what we speak about (winning trophies).“That’s the target now, they come to maturity in the next two, three years, and they have to show that.’Another Arsenal legend, Ian Wright, was forced to delete a tweet praising Spursfor their performance on Wednesday, after being the recipient of vulgar online abuse.
